Chairperson

Appointment to the COEC and Professional Background

Ms Bernotaitė has served as a Member of the Chief Official Ethics Commission (COEC) since 29 June 2026, following her appointment by the Seimas upon the nomination of the Seimas.

She has served as Chairperson of the Commission since 8 July 2026.

Ms Bernotaitė is a lawyer and a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Vilnius University. She has devoted most of her professional career to the public sector, working in the fields of legislative drafting, public administration, representation of the State’s interests, international cooperation, and corruption prevention.

Since 2022, Ms Bernotaitė headed the Corruption Prevention and Internal Investigations Division of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania. Previously, she worked at the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Lithuania (STT), the Office of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, and a law firm. She has also gained professional experience in the fields of environmental protection, education, and other areas of public administration.

  • On 17 November 2022 was appointed a Member of the COEC by the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic proposed by the Prime Minister;
  • On 3 January was appointed the Deputy Chairperson by the COEC.

Appointment to the COEC and functions:

  • On 20 November 2024 was appointed a Member of the COEC by the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic (proposed by the President of the Republic of Lithuania).

  • On 10 November was appointed a Member of the COEC by the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic (proposed by the the Lithuanian Lawyers’ Association)

Mr. Martinas Žaltauskas

 

Appointment to the COEC and functions:

  • On 5 December 2019 was appointed a Member of the COEC by the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic (proposed by the National Council of Non-Governmental Organisations);
  • Since 22 January, by a collegial decision of the COEC, supervises these particular spheres of activities of the COEC: organising and providing education on adjustment of public and private interests and establishment of a compliance officers’ network.
