Global Anti-Corruption and Transparency Forum meeting

The European Union is considering a proposal to increase the transparency of the representation of interests – that all persons interested in representation receiving funding from non-EU countries should register in the cross-border register and declare their sources of funding. at the end, the representatives of VTEK – Head of the Compliance Department Edita Kavoliūnienė, Senior Advisor Jurgita Jurkienė, Senior Advisor of the Prevention Department Agnė Zamblauskienė and Senior Advisor of the Investigations Department Tomas Čaplinskas – discussed this proposal at a meeting of representatives of the supervisory institutions of lobbying activities. The meeting took place during the Global Anti-Corruption and Transparency Forum organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris.

Another part of the forum is a discussion about the fact that although the governments of some countries have established rules for direct participation in politics, a universal standard that can help a business representative participate in politics has not been created. By following it, companies could better assess their influence, avoid reputational risks and achieve long-term strategic goals.

The Commission delegation and VTEK together with other EU members at the meeting of the European network of official ethics established a year ago. It presents challenges in the field of official ethics of various institutions, shares what changes are needed and how the Network can help. It was agreed that one of the objectives of the Network is to increase the visibility of the challenges of official ethics in the territory of the EU.
